*sigh* i'm old enough to have seen this installed, when it first came out. i must admit i never was enamored with this particular piece, still struggle with it in fact. i do appreciate what it is, though, in terms of feminist art, redefining of art and what it entails (both in process--collaborative--and content) at that moment in time, and historically. interestingly enough, she came out of a minimalist practise, prior to her Dinner Party, which i think... i don't know, shifted dramatically to a more popular conception (illustrative?) of communication, which seemed heavy handed to me (ignorant science student at the time) than anything else.
probably should revisit it; hear it is installed permanently in the brooklyn museum!
